Tiger Woods swaps contacts for Lasik

Tiger Woods, practically a brand name in the championship golf world. For the past decade his name is synonymous with success in this sport.

Tiger suffered from severe nearsightedness and he had 20/15 vision with contacts in. His motivation was to play without the hassle of contacts and being a professional golfer,

he was more concerned with how different weather conditions would affect his game after Laser Eye Surgery.

After his surgery, Tiger went on to win the first five tour events he played after having the surgery. Then a further four consecutive competitions starting with the U.S. Open

in 2000. It is not surprising that after the great improvement to his eyesight after treatment and his subsequent sponsorship from TLC Laser Eye Centers, which netted him a cool 2 millions dollars - Laser Eye Surgery really took off.

After his treatment Woods says that the holes now look bigger and his ability to read greens has improved.

Many of the great golfers of today have had Lasik Laser Eye Surgery, what we forget is that they all get the procedure for free from sponsorship. Other that Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen and Scott Hoch have also had the treatment done.

If you want to be as good as Tiger Woods... probably best to work on your drive and putt first.

Can Lasik make you blind?

Like any surgical procedure, one of the most common questions asked at consultation is - can Laser Eye Surgery make you go blind?

Laser Eye Surgery is one of the safest surgical procedures you can go through, with only around 1 in 1000 procedures resulting in complications. Millions of people have this procedure done every year and experience fantastic improvements to their eyesight with the majority of patients enjoying better than 20/20 vision. It is very rare for a complication to be untreatable, with about 1 in 30,000 complications not being about to be corrected by a Laser Eye Surgeon.

Any surgical procedure, from tooth extraction to having your appendix out carries an element of risk. The odds on becoming blind as a result of having Lasik or Lasek are in the region of 1 in 30 million.

The Final Destination 5 Lasik death scene has come at a time when Laser Eye surgery has become very popular - Laser Eye Surgeons do not leave the room when you are undergoing treatment - that is definitely a myth.

The chances of being made blind as a result of having Lasik are very minimal. The best advice is to concentrate on what the procedure can do for you and listen to your surgeon and make sure you ask as many questions as you can to make yourself feel comfortable. Write down a list of questions you want to ask before going for consultation, and even after consultation when you are trying to make up your mind about having the treatment, compile a new list of questions by reading one of the many forums on the internet.

Try and avoid reading Laser Eye Surgery myths, they are just that - myth.

Jessica Simpson Lasik on Newlyweds

Jessica Simpson underwent LASIK eye surgery in 2004 to correct her vision.

While Newlyweds is not quite everyones cup of tea, this episode does give some insight into just how quick it is. Some very silly questions coming from Jessica, like "Do you keep the lights on?". Of course, she had to have the silly teddy bear to comfort her [not her husband]. Pity Jessica had not seen the Final Destination Lasik Death Scene, that would have comforted her.

Her procedure was carried out by Glenn Kawesch, MD, and he specialises in Laser Eye Surgery. He has been performing the procedure for more than 15 years and carried out procedures on more than 25,000 patients.

Apart from Jessica Simpson, he has also carried out procedures on Susan Golding (former mayor of San Diego), Michael Tuck (news anchor), and numerous professional sports athletes.

Enjoy the 2 youtube videos below. It seems Nick has a rather simplified view of the procedure, albeit, incorrect and a bit misleading.
