Racing Driver Danny Watts treated at Optimax

Danny Watts started racing in 1993, moving from Karts to his present day position of a Le Mans driver. Danny was recently treated at the Peterborough Optimax Clinic.

The video testimonial from the Optimax youtube channel is really good. Very much like the pace and relaxed manner it is presented - he seems very sincere and comfortable in what he is saying. A criticism of many testimonial videos is that they lack that human ingredient and seem so orchestrated at times.

Let's hope his treatment helps him to improve his rankings. Go Danny!

Jewel Eye Cosmetic Implant

Jewellery is now available for your eyes.

The following technical details are extracts from the http://www.niioc.nl website

Surgical technique

"In 2002 the Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery developed a cosmetic extraocular implant (CEI) that can be implanted within the superficial, interpalpebral conjunctiva. The implant does not interfere with the ocular functions, ie the visual performance and motility. The CEI is made of a specially designed material that can be molded in all kinds of desired shapes and sizes."

Procedure
  •  The eye is anesthesised with routine eye-drop anesthesia medication.
  • The eye is decontaminated and draped with routine techniques used in ocular surgery.
  • An INTRAconjunctival bleb is created by injection of BSS in the most superficial conjunctival layer. The bleb may be positioned adjacent to the temporal limbus.
  • With conjunctival scissors, the bleb is opened and a superficial intraconjunctival tunnel is made.
  • The tunnel is checked to determine if it is wide enough to accomodate the CEI implantation device.
  • The CEI is then loaded into the CEI implantation device, and the device is inserted into the tunnel up to the desired final position of the CEI.
  • Using a routine fine-forceps, the CEI is removed from the CEI implantation device and the CEI implantation device is withdrawn from the conjunctival tunnel.
  • With a sponge, all excess BSS is removed from the implantation area.
  • At the end of the procedure, antibiotic drops are applied onto the eye.
  • Postoperative management includes antibiotic eyedrops for 1-2 week(s).

Denise Kathleen Outen, 27 May 1974) is an English actress, singer and television presenter. Her most notable roles to date are as a presenter on The Big Breakfast, and as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago on both the West End and on Broadway.
Denise is an actress, Television and Radio presenter, charity worker and a lads favourite in the United Kingdom.

In 2009, shortly after her treatment with FOCUS Laser Vision, she climbed Mount Killamanjaro for Comic Relief with a host of other celebrities. It was for this reason, she sought Laser Eye Surgery so she could to the climb without contact lenses.

Denise can now see better than 20/20 in each eye and she opted for the most advanced treatment of Z-LASIK, which is blade free using two lasers for maximum accuracy and safety, including wavefront optics to give her a fantastic quality of vision.

Karen Griffin's Lasik Experience

She has worked as an actress, a stand up comedian, a red carpet commentator, an author and an activist.

Apart from the fact she has twice won an Emmy award and a  New York  Times bestselling author - Kathy had a brief role in the 1994 film Pulp fiction where she played a passer by trying to help Marcellus Wallace after he has been hit by a car. One for you film fanactics... look out for her next time you watch it.

There is a lot of political spin in the statements regarding the case, however, lets not forget that her complications were very real. She had to undergo 5 lasik procedures to correct her eyesight and still she is left with complications that neither glasses or contact lenses can correct.

Food for thought from Kathy [Extract from her site]

"You've just read about my experience with one doctor. However, I believe
the problem is with the lasik procedure itself. And that substantial
risks exist no matter which doctor is performing the surgery"

You can read about her bad experiences on her Official website.

Do It Yourself Laser Eye Surgery Kits

Before you read on, I won't keep you in suspense. They don't exist and don't even try it yourself.

There are some great jokes on the Internet and they are quite believable too!

Do not be fooled or tempted to even buy one of these fun contraptions, they are just for fun and could probably cause some real damage by poking someone's eye out.

This particular DIY Laser Eye Surgery kit costs $100 and comes with the following:
  • A Scal-Pal hand-operated excimer combination laser.
  • A mild sedative.
  • Eye drops to prevent blinking.
  • A quick start guide.
  • A post operative sleeping mask.

Please do not even consider it.

Padraig Harrington treated at Optical Express?

According to the ASA Adjudication on Optical Express Ltd on the 27th of April 2011, a number of complaints were brought by Ultralase with respect of a brochure and a TV ad for Optical Express's Laser Eye Surgery treatment.

To cut a long story short, Padraig had his procedure carried out by a former company which was subsumed by Optical Express. Ultalase sought to discredit those claims, amongst others, and that generally their brochure was misleading.

The full complaint can be read here on the ASA website

Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards treated at Optimax

Eddie was the British ski jumping record holder, the world number nine in amateur speed skiing (106.8 mph) and the stunt jumping world record holder, jumping over 10 cars and 6 buses.

When Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards was approached by Optimax to see what they could do for his poor eyesight, it was apparent that he was not suitable for Laser Eye Surgery as a result of his longsightedness. In this case rather than Laser Eye Surgery, he has opted for Lens Implants.

It is worth watching this video as this may be an option for you if you are not suitable.

It's great listening to him, such a positive person.

Jonathan Edwards treated at Ultralase

Jonathan Edwards is a former Olympic, Commonwealth, European and World champion, and has held the world record in the event since 1995.

He is also known for his devout Christian lifestyle and views which he gave up due to loss of faith in 2007. He has since then pursued a career as presenter on television.

Jonathan chose Ultralase for his procedure and his video on the Ultralase youtube channel is very positive. Reassuringly, this video was made 6 years after his procedure which I feel makes him a very good ambassador for their Laser Eye Surgery procedure quality.

Daley Thompson had Laser Eye Surgery with Optical Express

If you are a 30 something like I am then you will know that Daley Thompson is a living legend, not just for winning the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984 and breaking the world record for the event four times, but also for the Spectrum 48K game "Daley Thompson's Decathlon" which was one of the most popular computer games of the 80's resulting in many a broken joystick or keyboard.

The man has hardly aged a day, and looks in great health - with only the white flashes of hair giving his age away. In the last year he had his Laser Eye Surgery procedure carried out by Optical Express and they have posted a very good video of him both pre and post op.

According to the Optical Express website he was reported to have better than 20/20 vision after his procedure.

For a man that takes such pride in his health, he certainly seemed happy and I am sure that he took time to consider the benefits of using Optical Express before committing.

Good to see him in good health... I just wish that someone would rejuvenate the classic game of the 80's to match his new eyesight.

Final Destination 5 Laser Eye Surgery Death Scene

The 5th and what probably is not going to be the final Final Destination movie is coming to the big screens soon... so what could Death possibly think of this time to kill yet another group of unwitting teenagers that have cheated him once again?

The answer? Death by Laser Eye Surgery of course!

This is the 2nd Final Destination to be filmed in 3D and is directed by Steven Quale with the screenplay by Eric Heisserer. The new unfortunate survivors of death include, Nicholas D'Agosto, Emma Bell and Champ Kind.

The signature death scene will be the collapse of a suspension bridge, with laser eye surgery death scenes, a gymnastics death scene and and an acupuncture death scene.

I wonder how this will affect the industry, will it put potential patients off? There have been so many ways to die in the Final Destination movies, from dentist chairs, sun beds to roller coasters - it is unlikely. For a start, you are not going to be strapped down and left by your Laser Eye Surgeon during the procedure - it is likely that many will demand the surgeon to stay in the room regardless, which can't be a bad thing.

Final Destination 5 is released in the UK on August 26 and you can read more about on the official Warner Bros web page.

The previous 4 movies can be bought on one DVD, expect the Final Destination 5 movie to be out at christmas. Click on any images below if you want to purchase them from Amazon.
