Monty Halls gets Laser Eye Surgery treatment at Optimax

Monty Halls has become synonymous with escaping from city life to the rural and wild areas of Britain to the Jungles of the rainforests. His journey of the Western Isles in 2010 was a great British TV hit. His latest TV Escape is the Monty Halls' Great Irish Escape which airs on BBC2 on Thursday the 11th of August at 8pm.

He recently completed the London Marathon with a dolphin attached to his back [even though it fell off at the 15th mile]. All in, Monty is an extremely active TV personality.

Monty was treated at the Optimax Bristol Laser Eye Surgery Clinic in January of 2010 and he has this to say about his treatment.
I think its confidence as well it’s allowing me to do things like go surfing, diving, ruby and skiing there all sort of very active sports, and to know I can go into them with 100% confidence about my vision is very significant indeed, its one less thing to worry about, so its had quite a profound impact really in that respect - Extract from the Optimax website testimonial page

Brigitte Nielson treated at Optical Express

Brigitte Nielson was one of the greatest female actresses of the 80's and 90's. She started out her career as a model, progressing on to acting with her first major role cast alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger as the scantily clad female warrior in Red Sonja.

She starred later in the films Cobra and Rocky 4 with her soon to be husband [and later to be ex-husband] - Sylvester Stallone.

The 6ft Danish beauty is still going strong, and decided in April this year to undergo Laser Eye Surgery at the Optical Express Harley Street clinic in London.

Optical Express seem to have dropped the ball with publicising this stars procedure, she is a PR gift.

Her surgeon was Professor Jan Venter and she was treated at the Harley Street clinic in London.

Yet another legend treated at Optical Express....who next?

Lasik Deaths

We have covered this subject before in different contexts. Death by Lasik is a popular discussion point on the internet. To cut a long story short, there is as much chance of death from Lasik as getting hit by a meteor!

The recent instalment of the Final Destination series of movies has not done much to help matters, but it's probably as believable as the young girls getting fried in the sunbed scene in one of the previous movies.

Laser Eye Surgery is one of the safest and most commonly carried out surgical procedures in the world. There are many myths surrounding the procedure, such as pain, and even side effects as wacky as x-ray vision. Nobody dies of Lasik. At most, one in many thousands experiences some sort of small complication which is resolved by follow up treatment.

Don't have nightmares, and don't read the horror stories, read the good testimonials, shop around and be positive about the opportunity to improve your vision.

Cindy Crawford gets Lasik procedure at Maloney Vision Institute

From being a young girl in Illinois to the makings of a super model - her story is one of the greatest.

She is also a successful business person, actress and completely down to earth. Her down to earth attitude is reflected in some of her childhood ambitions where she states that she wanted to be a teacher, the first female president and even a nuclear physicist. What a nuclear physicist she would have made - a true meltdown.

If you want to be inspired, you should have a good read of her own website. She is an active charity worker [as opposed to passive], and gives modelling advice to would be models.

Cindy Crawford consulted the Lasik Surgeon of the famous, the one and only Robert Maloney MD from the Maloney Vision Institute. Cindy, like many stars before her, decided to put her trust in him to perform her procedure.
"It’s great to wake up in the middle of the night and watch television without my glasses, and, best of all, I can drive without glasses or contacts. I would recommend it to anyone!" - Extract taken from the Maloney Vision Institute website.
Cindy now lives in Malibu with her husband Rande Gerber and their two children, Presley and Kaia.

May Cindy continue to be in great health and thank goodness for Robert Maloney MD once more - you have saved another superstar's eyesight.

Star Wars Anthony Daniels gets Laser Eye Surgery

Anthony Daniels is one of the few actors that has starred in all 6 Star Wars films. During the filming of "The Revenge of the Sith" he realised that he could not read without his reading glasses - a bit embarrasing for a protocol droid.

Anthony had the Laser Blended Vision procedure at the London Vision Clinic and is now enjoying excellent eyesight.

You can find Anthony on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/ADaniels3PO

May the force be with you!

Is bad eyesight unattractive?

We are all concious about how we look to others, especially the opposite sex - is there a need to get rid of even contact lenses now with so much pressure on maintaining our vanity?

In the early 80's glasses were a way of life, perhaps you may have had to wear a patch, the ubiquitous patch wearer in school is remembered by all.

Many UK dating sites ask the question whether you are a glasses wearer or not. Does it matter? and why don't they ask if you have had Lasik?

Does it matter if your date wore glasses at some point in their life, currently wears contacts and if they have had Lasik?

Sites such as the one below do not ask you such questions. Naughty dating sites in the UK probably just don't care.

Do you care if someone has bad eyesight when you check them out?

What are your thoughts?

FDA issues 90 days compliance notice for LASIK false claims

The Food and Drug Administration has issued notice to LASIK professionals this week informing them that they have 90 days to update promotional materials that are making false claims about the safety of the popular Laser Eye Surgery treatment.

"It's about the false claims and not adequately providing consumers with information about the risks associated with the procedure," said Erica Jefferson, FDA spokeswoman [Quote from Health Day]

Laser Eye Surgery does have small risks attached to it such as vision loss, double vision and glare.

Furthermore, people with thin or irregular corneas, eye diseases such as dry eye or glaucoma, or cataracts for example are not good candidates for LASIK.

These changes are welcomed, as it highlights the need for those who are seeking to find a LASIK / Laser Eye Surgeon to not be fooled by false safety claims at consultation. This is a very good thing for the industry, and will be welcomed by potential patients and excellent surgeons.

In the United States it is important to ensure that the physician is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Mum is first to get ReLEx Laser Eye Surgery in Britain

ReLEx Laser Eye Surgery, the future?

Laser Eye Surgery has come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years. The main focus, other than giving the best results is the reduction in discomfort from the intrusive nature of Laser Eye Surgery or LASIK.

Kal Chauhan, a mother of 45, has become the first ever person to have the procedure performed in the UK, providing a remedy for a -11 prescription.

Kal received the treatment at the London Vision Clinic, and according to the Mirror newspaper the procedure left her with "better than 20/20 vision".

The costs of the procedure for Kal were around £4000, however, with the existing Laser Eye Surgery procedures being driven down by competitive marketing, it may be as ReLex becomes more popular and widespread that the prices will be driven down.
